Your Weekly Dose of Local Flavor, News, and Fun

Hey there, Columbus crew!
Hope you're staying warm amidst this classic Ohio winter rollercoaster. One day it's a balmy 51°F, the next we're back to layering up.
But hey, that's what keeps us on our toes, right?
Let's dive into what's buzzing around town this week.
🚨 The Headlines
❄️ 47 Years Since the Blizzard of ‘78
It’s been nearly five decades since Ohio was buried under 20+ inches of snow, and some of your grandparents are still talking about it.
The Blizzard of 1978 was no joke—hurricane-force winds, record snowfall, and the kind of winter chaos that makes you grateful for remote work.
Flash forward to today, and while we still complain about winter (with good reason), at least our snowplows are better, and meteorologists have stopped guessing when a storm might hit.

✈️ John Glenn Airport Expansion Takes Off
Columbus is officially leveling up its airport game.
The $2 billion expansion of John Glenn Columbus International Airport is officially happening, and by 2029, we’re getting:
✅ A massive new terminal with 36 gates (because clearly, 29 wasn’t enough).
✅ A single, more efficient security checkpoint (TSA lines that move).
✅ A central marketplace with actual good food—because $17 turkey sandwiches are a crime.
✅ More parking—which honestly might be the most exciting part of this whole thing.
With Columbus growing fast and new tech bros moving in, the city needs an airport that can handle more than 10 million travelers a year.
The goal?
To make sure fewer of us get stuck with annoying layovers in Chicago or Atlanta.
💼 State Employees Heading Back to the Office
Starting March 17, Governor Mike DeWine is calling all state employees back to the office full-time.
After years of remote and hybrid work, it's time to dust off those office chairs and rediscover the joy of water cooler chats.
This move aims to enhance public service and make the most of our office spaces. So, if you've been enjoying meetings in pajama bottoms, savor these last few weeks.

☕ Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co. – Now Brewing in Dublin
Coffee lovers, take note—Dublin just got a taste of Yemen’s finest.
Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co. has officially opened its doors at 6181 Sawmill Rd. Suite B
Dublin, OH 43017 marking the third Ohio location for this Michigan-based chain. Known for its rich, aromatic Yemeni coffee, the shop serves up a menu of hot and cold espresso drinks, traditional Yemeni brews, tea refreshers, and fresh-baked treats like croissants and scones.

The best part? It’s open 24/7, making it the perfect spot for late-night study sessions, early-morning caffeine fixes, or cozy conversations over a smooth cup of qishr. Plus, an outdoor patio is on the way.
Comfortable seating, authentic flavors, and a coffee culture steeped in history—Dublin’s coffee scene just got an upgrade.
🗣️ Citywide Debate
🌮 Does Columbus Need Another Taco Spot? |
Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Yes.
—unless you’re anti-taco, in which case, we need to have a serious talk.
😡 Name a Worm After Your Ex at the Columbus Zoo
Feeling a bit salty this Valentine's Day? The Columbus Zoo has a quirky offer: for a $15 donation, you can name a worm after your ex and watch a sloth bear devour it.
You'll even receive a personalized video of the act. It's all in good fun and supports animal care and conservation efforts.
Who knew revenge could be so sweet?
Tucked away on the west side of the Scioto River, Hayden Falls Park is the definition of a hidden gem. This small but stunning waterfall oasis is the perfect escape when you need a break from city life but don’t have time for a full-on hiking trip.
Why it’s worth the trip:
Frozen Falls Magic – If temps drop low enough, the 35-foot waterfall partially freezes, creating a mesmerizing icy cascade.
Boardwalk Views – A short, accessible boardwalk takes you through a wooded gorge straight to the falls—just watch for ice in colder weather.
Winter Wildlife – While turtles may be hibernating, you might spot hardy birds like herons and woodpeckers braving the season.
Best time to visit? Late morning for the best lighting or golden hour for a winter wonderland vibe. If it’s been above freezing, visit after rain for stronger water flow.
